Yarn Painting

This one is a lot of fun, and has great results. Set out a piece of yarn for each color of paint you intend to use. Have the child dip the yarn in one color of paint and run it across the paper. Use a new piece of string for a different color.

Lacing Cards
Cut colored posterboard into a Y shape and punch holes around the edges. Them let your child lace yarn or a shoestring into the cards.

Yarn Hair Paper Bag Family Puppets
Supply each child with a brown paper bag, yarn and other items to make a puppet. The flap at the bottom of the bag is the mouth. Ask the children to give the puppet a name.

Yarn and Popcorn Garland
Make popcorn. Let it cool. Supply the children with a piece of yarn and a child safe needle (plastic and big) Have the children thread the popcorn onto the yarn to make garland.

Place some yeast and warm sugar water in a bottle. Place a balloon over the top of the bottle. Observe the results.

“Y” Stamps
Let the children use “y” stamps or sponges to create an art project.

“Y” Collage
Have the children cut out the letter “Y” from magazines and glue them onto a piece of paper.

“Y” Collage
Make that letter “Y” out of construction paper. Have the children cut the letter “Y” out of magazines and glue them to the letter “Y”.

“Y” yarn
Make that letter “Y” out of construction paper. Have the children cut various colors of yarn and glue them to the letter “Y”.

Glue LettersPlace glue on a piece of paper in the shape of the letter “Y”. Have the children place glitter, colored rice or koolaid on the glue.

Contact Paper Art

Place and image of the letter y on the table and place a piece of contact paper, sticky side up over the image. Supply the children with scraps of construction paper to tissue paper. Children use the scraps to create the image on the contact paper.

Letter ArtPlace masking tape on a piece of finger painting paper to create the letter “Y”. Allow the child to paint the picture. After the paint had dried remove the tape.

Cotton LettersPlace glue on a piece of paper in shape of the letter “Y”. Have the children place cotton balls on the paper.

Letter Hands
Paint the child's hands. Have the children make the letter “Y” with their hands.

Letter Rubbings 
Cut “Y” shapes from paper doilys or sandpaper. Tape these letters to the table. Have the children place a piece of thin white paper over the letters and rub a crayon over the letter.

“Y” Pretzels
Make your own pretzels and shape them like letters of the “Y”.

“Y” rolls
Shape roll or biscuits into letter shapes before baking.

“Y” Cookies
Use your favorite sugar cookie recipe to make the dough. Use letter shaped cookie cutter, bake. When cool decorate as desired.

Make bread with and without yeast. Have the children sample each.

Serve Yellow Cake

Egg Yolks
Break open an egg and how the children the yolk. Cook the egg thoroughly, then have them try the yolk and the white part. Have the children vote on which they like best.

Have a yawning contest. See who can not yawn the longest. You start by yawning, then as children yawn they try to get their friends to yawn by yawning.

Loud Yawns
Have the children yawn as loud as they can.

Serve cooked Yams. Yum yum!!!

Yardstick fun
Have the children bring something to circle time that is shorter than your yardstick. Have children point out objects that are longer than a yardstick.

Yardstick Hop
Place a yardstick on the floor and ask the children to hop as far as they can. Can anyone hop further than a yard?

Yodeling Fun
Play a recording of someone yodeling. Have the children try to yodel. Dance to the music.

Have the children do some yoga stretches.

Have the children taste different flavors of yogurt, then vote for and graph their favorite.
